Abstract: Percent information transferred (also called information transfer, or IT) in a stimulus identification paradigm is used in audiological research to quantify a listener's capacity to perceive given speech features, such as voicing or place of articulation of consonants. Estimates of IT's based on comparatively small samples of each stimulus can be extremely biased. We investigate the effect of sample size on this bias and show how to remove most of the bias using a jackknife technique.
